Launching ‘Unexpected Voices’ With Orlando Bloom, Eric Dane, CASEY AFFLECK, & Ion Overman At The Veterans Awards
… Let us be the voice for the voiceless, and spread hope for those who often feel invisible in the eyes of society.”
– Orlando Bloom, Actor & Humanitarian
My deepest gratitude to Orlando Bloom for helping us launch the ‘Unexpected Voices’ advocacy campaign by the Academy of United States Veterans to give a voice to the voiceless – veterans struggling with mental health and those who have lost the battle to suicide.
We launched this campaign at the 6th Annual Veterans Awards in Washington DC on July 3, 2021, and I’m proud to be partnered with them through our Arts, Hearts & Philanthropy initiative and Be Great! to spread the word as wide as possible. Please share this message from Orlando to learn more on how you can support us. Click image to visit website and watch video.
Our Arts, Hearts + Philanthropy initiative partnered with the Academy of United States Veterans over the July 4th weekend on the 6th Annual Veterans Awards (VETTYS) to launch the ‘UNEXPECTED VOICES’ campaign. The event and campaign spotlight issues surrounding mental health in military communities, and we honored extraordinary organizations working hard to support veterans.
I want to give a special thanks to United States Army Afghanistan Veteran Assal Ravandi for organizing the VETTYS, and our presenters that included Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea, Ocean’s 11), Ion Overman (Madea Goes To Jail, The L Word), and Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy, Euphoria). And thanks so much to SNL’s Darrell Hammond who also joined us for this incredible night.
A huge honor for me was presenting the VETTY in the category of Employment to Heroes Linked and its Director, David Tenenbaum. You’ll definitely be seeing us collaborate in the future . Congrats guys!
And Warrior Music Foundation was presented with Arts, Hearts + Philanthropy’s VETTY award for its work in combating PTSD that many of our veterans face. Congrats guys!
Both of my parents had a chance to join Ion Overman and me at the event. My father is a Vietnam veteran who served on submarines, so the chance to share this evening with him was truly something special.

By the way, there was no way we were going to visit Washington D.C. over the July 4th weekend and miss the monuments and memorials. Ion and I had a blast 😉
